Dr. Stovall is a graduate of the UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, she is involved in a number of professional organizations which allows her to stay up-to-date with the ever-changing field of dentistry. She is a past president of the Old North State Dental Society, member of the American Dental Association, National Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, AJ Williams Dental Study Club, and the Charlotte Medical/Dental Society. Dr. Stovall is also very involved in mission work in Ghana, West Africa, where she hopes to build a dental clinic near the villages her organization serves. Outside of the office, she enjoys vocal and stage performances with the Charlotte Contemporary Ensemble and Opera Carolina.
Dr. Stovall is proud to come from a family of dentists. Her grandfather was a dental technician; her father is a retired dentist; her brother, Dr. Rick Stovall, practices in Goldsboro, North Carolina where his daughter, Dr. Jonelle Stovall (also a UNC Dental School graduate) has now joined his practice.
Historically, dentistry as a career was not the first career Dr. Stovall experienced. Beyond a short term in her father's office after graduation, followed by some time with the Kendall Company in Augusta, GA, Dr. Stovall was employed by Allstate Insurance Company for over 15 years, primarily in Data Processing Management. It was at that time she decided that she was being called back into health care and dentistry seemed like a likely choice. After completing the Dental Aptitude Test, she applied and was accepted into the dental program at UNC Chapel Hill. Although there was a 20 year lapse in schooling between undergraduate studies and entering dental school, she was able to successfully complete the program, on time and with many honors. Through the last 19 years, Dr. Stovall has had the opportunity to continue to study dentistry through continuing education programs, applying her knowledge in the office and mission events, in the US and in Ghana.
Dr. Stovall is a member of All Saints Anglican Church in south Charlotte and although she has no children of her own, she warmly embraces all the children in her practice, in her church, and in Ghana. She has mentored many young people and older adults into career paths they might otherwise have overlooked.
In her 'spare' time, she enjoys trying to become skillful with a variety of musical instruments which include: piano, drums, flute and her favorite the saxophone (alto and soprano). This also includes the cello and clarinet. In the future Dr. Stovall is planning to tackle the bag pipes and guitar.
